Apprentice Challenge 2

We have all heard of property board games, from Monopoly to LIFE to Saidina. Hang on, Saidina? Yes, dear reader, Saidina is the Malaysian version of Monopoly, complete with oil palm estates and properties from Georgetown to Melaka.

This property board game was precisely the challenge set by PRePARE for the participants of the Sunway Apprentice Challenge. To make the game even more interesting, the contestants were given the opportunity of becoming the pieces themselves; on a GIANT BOARD!

At the end of the day, the winner was Team Fuxion, winning a Saidina board (not life-sized, unfortunately) and gift vouchers worth RM 300 per person. Congratulations to Team Fuxion on their victory, and better luck next time to Team Edge!

Apprentice Challenge 3

The final challenge has actually arrived; the conclusive finale to the Apprentice Challenge 2008! To recap our journey so far, Team Edge has been trailing behind the dominant Team Fuxion by losing both of the challenges they’ve contested in so far. It was therefore with great anticipation, that we at ECHO, awaited this third challenge. The question was “Will Team Edge redeem themselves?”

The third Apprentice Challenge was announced to the participants at the heart of KL itse lf, in the Alliance bank Headquarters. Their challenge; analyse the case study provided and present their team’s findings the next day. The two teams were given access to Alliance Bank’s own consultants, each an expert in their chosen field. However, the teams were allowed only 5 minutes with each consultant. To make matters worse, the teams were only allowed to see each consultant ONCE.

That was not the biggest surprise yet. PRePARE had yet to announce the last surprise; Team Fuxion and Team Edge were to exchange two team members, chosen by PRePARE, before they could set out on their task!

Needless to say, the case study was difficult at best (it was later learned that the case study was used by Alliance Bank to determine their top employees!). By the following morning, however, both teams looked prepared, albeit a bit sleepy, for their presentation.

Team Edge was up first, followed by Team Fuxion. After the presentations, the judging panel, consisting of esteemed members of Alliance Bank and PRePARE, deliberated the results, not only for the winning team, but the Best Presenter and Sunway Apprentice Title 2008 as well.

By noon, the results were in. With bated breath, it was announced that once again, Team Fuxion had won! This earned the team a massive sum of RM 2500 for the entire team to split among themselves. The already exuberant team had even more to celebrate

when it was announced that not only did they win the Winning Team Award, but Ng Eu Ken (A-Levels) of Team Fuxion was awarded the Best Presenter Award, adding RM 500 to the winnings. To top off Team Fuxion’s stunning victory, Paul Ngu (ADTP) was crowned the Sunway Apprentice 2008! This earned him an additional RM1500 along with a conditional job offer from Alliance Bank.

ECHO would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the participants from both teams for their perseverance, and teamwork. Congratulations once again to Team Fuxion!
